Studs + Chains

I am most definitely a sweater girl, but I love them even more with a little flair to them. This pullover has the awesome addition of studs on the shoulders and it's in one of my favorite colors- pink- although this is a very soft shade of pink. I wanted to play this sweater up even more so I added this statement necklace that is made of varying chains. If you own a statement necklace, throw it on with a sweater to give more dimension to your outfit. I finished the outfit with my trusty combat boots and I have polka dot socks peeking out the top. I couldn't resist it. Who says those two things shouldn't go together!?

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Ripped Jeans + Slip On Sneakers

It is warming up very nicely today in Georgia, so I wore a little something more lightweight today. I wanted an effortless look and what's more effortless than ripped jeans, slip- on sneakers, and leopard print. I just jumped on the slip on sneaker trend and I love them. I want a pair of leopard print ones as well because I think they will pair nicely with a lot of things. Hey, a girl can never have enough leopard print items!

Ruffle Ready

We are in for six more weeks of winter according to the Groundhog's Day forecast. I am perfectly fine with that when I have fun pieces to pair with my outfits. This blanket scarf gives me everything I need in the form of color and warmth. Would it be weird if I sat in the house with this on? The sweater peaking out beneath this scarf is awesome because it it's ivory with gold accents in the ruffle trim. That ruffle trim makes this sweater more exciting and it makes me want to do a little twirl. Hope everyone has some nice pieces in their wardrobe that brings you joy and has the added benefit of keeping you warm this winter.

Berets + Black Hearts

In my quest to almost always have something on my head when I leave the house during the winter,  I reached for my black beret. I happen to have at least seven other berets in various colors. The thing is I hardly wear them. I guess you can say the beret kinda intimidates me. I can never get it on my head just the way I want it for some reason. But, this black one is the easiest to get away with and not have the French police on me. In all seriousness do the French really wear berets? Berets aside, I love wearing all black more and more each day. The monotony of the black is broken up with this F21 jacket that I featured in another post recently and gray knee high socks. And yes, that is an embellished heart on my sweater! I like sweaters with all kinds of things on them.

Do you rock berets with confidence? Feel free to leave me a message!

Beanies + Button Downs

I usually reserve button down shirts for job interviews and things of that nature. That is just how I  always visualize them. I also think they are a preppy staple if that is the look you are going for. I'm trying to branch out my style with things I wouldn't typically wear. I love this particular button down because it a soft pink with a gingham pattern- that isn't really captured in my photos above. My look was somewhat preppy with the added cardigan but I think I made it somewhat less preppy with the beanie. Let it be known, I have no problem with looking preppy. My favorite part of this look was my large statement necklace. The pictures do it no justice. It is a soft pink that matches my necklace perfectly and it has beautiful iridescent pieces as well. No winter blues for me. I'm having fun thinking outside my personal style box.

How do you nudge yourself outside your personal style box?

Neon Pink + Great Jackets

What do I do with a shocking pink cashmere sweater? I play it up with my all time favorites polka dots and black. This sweater is a bold move because it is so bright that I can't hide in a crowd! Fashion and style is all about standing out in something that you are comfortable in. I love the color pink so I went with this sweater and made it work for my personal style with black pieces. I topped this outfit off with this awesome jacket that I got from Forever 21 for an unbelievable price. Let me just say it was under $10- you have got to love sales! So, if there is a piece in your closet that makes you think twice for any kind of reason, just experiment and find what works for you.

No Big Deal

No Big Deal

No Big Deal by thatgemgirl featuring a casual outfit

I am a college student so when I have those days in the mornings where I don't feel like getting dressed up I would put on something like the outfit above. To me, this is still very stylish because you have color, stripes, and a nice jacket to complete the look. I have a pair of bright Nikes that I am obsessed with so I try to wear them outside of just a typical gym wear look. I am also beanie obsessed because I don't have to worry about my hair flying everywhere in this windy weather and it keeps my head warm of course. So, for an easy look the next time your running out to class or running errands get comfy and stylish with an outfit such as this.
